Challenge. Nineteen schools serving more than 9,000 students were persistently underperforming, with wide equity gaps and several in low-performing status.
Action. Designed and led an Equity Acceleration Model, pairing data-informed academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports with targeted development for principals and assistant principals.
Result. Student achievement rose 81% across the 19 schools, and schools moved out of low-performing status.
Challenge. A 32,000-student district carried five low-performing schools and had no districtwide strategic plan to align improvement.
Action. Authored the district's first strategic plan, One Vision One Durham, and drove an equity-focused improvement agenda backed by stronger business and community partnerships.
Result. All five low-performing schools were eliminated within three years, leaving a lasting strategic foundation.
Challenge. An under-resourced Title I district of 4,500 students faced funding inequities and aging facilities.
Action. Authored Focus Forward 2025, a STEAM-for-all strategic plan, secured more than $22M in bond funding, and advanced fair-funding advocacy with state legislators.
Result. More than $22M secured for construction and infrastructure, with improved outcomes and increased state funding.
